Loops: Learning the Basics

One of my favorite sections in Platform 5 is the Loops Section. This section is insanely powerful and allows the developer/client to have complete control over post layout. The Loops Section supplies shortcodes that will allow you to display the data anyway you like.

Here is the shortcode list to use as a reference. (These shortcodes can be found in the section option as well.)

[loops_title align="left"] - Post Title
align options: left, right, center.

[loops_media size="thumbnail" align="left"] - Post thumbnail or Post Format Element
(Audio, Video, Quote, Link or Gallery).
size options: thumbnail, medium, large, full, aspect-thumb, basic-thumb,
landscape-thumb, tall-thumb, big-thumb.
align options: left, right, center.

[loops_content] - Post Content

[loops_comments] - Post/Page Comments

[loops_excerpt] - Post Excerpt

[loops_author] - Post Author

[loops_date format="F j, Y"] - Post Publish Date
Format Options: By default PowerLoop will use the date setting from WordPress Settings.

[loops_link text="Read More" align="left"] - Post Link
text options: any content align options: left, right, center.

[loops_avatar size="64" align="left"] - Post Author Avatar
size options: Avatar display size (max is 512).
align options: left, right, center.

Aside from the stortcode you also get other option to assist you. You can select from post type, taxonomy, posts per page and even the post offsets. (there is also meta query options)

Ease of use

Choosing your loops layout is fairly simple. To begin open the loops section and open the layout option tab. You should see a box labeled Loops Shortcodes / HTML, this is where we will put the shortcodes.

Just for a basic example include this in the box.

[loops_title]
[loops_excerpt length="20"]
[loops_link text=" read more " align="right"]

You should have something similar to this picture below.

So what’s next

This is just the beginning of what is possible with the loop section. There is so much more than can be done with this section. From unique and custom post and pages to complete post layouts.

You are only limited by your imagination. So let’s get creative.
